  The Investigation
  Method:
Using visual and scientific methods combined with spiritual theory we were to investigate the alleged paranormal phenomena at this venue. We had been to this venue many times now so we resorted to our tested method of simple vigils with the option of conducting a séance where appropriate, as it was during these conditions that most activity had occurred previously. All the equipment as above was deployed around the vigil/séance area.

Investigation:
Session one – Group vigil in nave
We chose to sit together on one pew to the rear of the nave. On previous visits we had separated and spread about the area but we thought that together we could immediately identify any noise cause by ourselves. Time was spent calling out for activity and waiting for any responses. Dave and Ian recorded video footage of the session whilst Dave, Paddy and Kim had their digital voice recorders running.

Session two – Group vigil in choir stalls
For the same reason as in the first session we chose to sit together on the north facing choir stall. More time was spent asking for activity whilst Dave, Paddy and Kim's digital voice recorders were running. Again Dave and Ian recorded video footage of the session.

Session three – Séance in chapel
A change of tact was needed so we decided to hold a séance in the chapel area. There was no reason for this other than it had been previously untried. Equipment deployed as previously mentioned.

Session four Group vigil in chapel
A return to the chapel area this time for a group vigil.

Results

Session one – Group vigil in nave
Not long into this session Ian thought he saw a flash of light against a far wall, so he began calling aloud for a response, none was forthcoming. Shortly after this a loud crack was heard from the area of the pews in front of the pulpit, this was not repeated when requested. A short while afterwards Ian and Kim thought they heard a noise as Ian again called aloud.

A long period passed with nothing to speak of until this period ended with a loud tap coming from the main south door. This was soon accompanied by the sound of movement in front and to the side and behind where the team were sitting. A sense of anxiety swelled amongst the team as though something was about to happen, although this never did and after a short while with no further results to speak of the session was ended.

Session two – Group vigil in choir stalls
A few single taps were heard during this session, none seemed responsive and were also not repeated when requested. At one point Dave felt a cold area around his right side (the right end of the stall).

Session three – Séance in chapel
Whilst seated in a circle, hands held together, Dave called out for activity. After a while these repeated requests were met with some noise coming from the bottom of the nave around the base or possibly in the upper areas of the bell tower.

During this session the team commented of a faint sound of footfalls and later the same was heard by just Ian and Kim.
For the middle part of this session the team were convinced that these noises suggested someone was around the bottom end of the church.
These noises ebbed away until a long period of silence convinced us to end the session.

Session four Group vigil in chapel
During the last session of the night there was very few results to speak of other than a selection of noises heard coming from pews in the south isle. These again were not repeated when requested.

Conclusions

Session one – Group vigil in nave
The flash of light seen by Ian could be attributed to the beam from a car on the road half a mile from the venue.

The noises heard by the pulpit and by the door were recorded on our video footage both by Ian's and Dave's camcorders. Interestingly Dave's footage, being nearer to the door in question also recorded an amount of movement of shuffling just prior to the tap on the main door. These noises have been analysed but a reason for them cannot be found. They were not repeated, which leads us to conclude that they must have been naturally occurring although there is an element of doubt over the sound of movement that Dave recorded. This footage can be seen on the video below.

All other subtle sounds of movement were not recoded, therefore, cannot be analysed further.
The feeling of anxiety felt by the team is a natural response given that we thought things were starting to happen, the fact that nothing did happen means that these sensations were not well-founded.

Session two – Group vigil in choir stalls
Some of the taps heard during this session were recorded on our equipment but having listened to them again, and considering they were random and non-responsive we can only assume they were naturally occurring. Some small windows were open, therefore, the cold area felt by Dave may well have been due to a draught coming from these.

Session three – Séance in chapel
The noises from the bell tower were not truly responsive and if on the odd occasion they appeared to be so it may have been totally coincidental. At this time we cannot explain the cause of these noises, save to say that there was no one in the area outside or inside the church. Unfortunately we cannot rule out the possibly of animals in the roof of the building, we know bats and squirrels can get into the roof space. We will never know the answer to this.

The footsteps heard by the team and later by just Kim and Ian were caught on our camcorder footage, all be it very faintly. Please watch the accompanying video to make your own mind up, headphones or sound amplification equipment will be needed. At this time the cause for these noises is undetermined and remains a mystery. Needless to say this is a phenomenon that has been recorded by us before, so this is of great interest to us.

Session four Group vigil in chapel
The few noises heard during our last session were not recorded on our equipment, therefore, cannot be analysed further. Given the random nature of these we can only assume they were naturally occurring.
