Undisclosed Location - Kent

Ghost Connections were privileged to be granted access to the same venue as featured on an August 2007 report. This venue is in rural Kent and is significant historical interest spanning several centuries. To our knowledge it has never been subject to a paranormal investigation and after our first visit we are pleased to be able to conduct further investigations at this venue.

The previous report can be read here.

Investigation:
As with the previous investigation we considered that, following the comparative results, we would split into two pairs again for this investigation. The same pairings were used, Kim with Paddy and Ian with Dave. This time, however, we started in the opposite building to last time.

Prior to entering either building Ian saw a shadowy figure run across the front of the utility block.

Ian and Dave then start in building B.

The temperature was measured at 16.3 deg C

Dave noted that windows on one side are dark yet those on the other appear lighter as they were illuminated by outside lighting from a neighbouring building.

Settling in it was noted that the building itself was making no sounds akin to movement or shrinkage.

Both Ian and Dave sat themselves near a secured window at the bottom of a wooden staircase to the upper floor.

In a short space of time there were creaks on the upper floors floorboards and on the stairs themselves. These were 'heavy' enough to be construed as being walked on. At a similar time Dave, whose right side was towards the stair case notes a cold draught on his right arm.

Various taps and bangs were heard after some time. These seemed to be coming from various different areas within a short distance of both of them. Upon comment from either Dave or Ian these would be repeated although only single ones were forthcoming. A request for them to be made louder resulted in this.

Whilst Dave was comfortable and seated only a couple of feet from Ian, Ian would comment on feeling considerably colder. The temperature where they were seated was now observed to be 16.3 – 16.1 deg C.

A further series of bangs would be heard and upon request for two to be made together this was forthcoming although not immediately together.

A single bang was then heard within the building before the investigation concluded and locations were intended to be swapped with Kim and Paddy. The following account of Kim and Paddy from building A was to lead to change of plan such that everyone would remain together in that building for some time following a break.

In Building A the initial temperature was noted to be 18.4 rising quickly to 19.1 deg C.

Again this building is particularly quiet and did not exhibit any natural noises associated with building movement or timber shrinkage.

Sudden noises were heard and Paddy would later describe them as being similar to grinding or belted machine being operated. In two areas on one side of the building there are machines such as this.

A review of the temperature at this time revealed it to be 19.6 rising to 20.1 deg C.

Knock type noises were requested and some were forthcoming although they were not particularly close to be able to be verified as occurring immediately on request.

Following this both Kim and Paddy noted that they experienced feelings of apprehension or expectancy.

Paddy saw what he described as a light and dark anomaly within the building.

There were sounds identified as those of a bat in flight within the building. Traffic and persons walking past could be heard and differentiated as being outside rather than within the premises.

Distant intermittent gun shots were heard.

It was at this point that a break took place and the decision was taken for all of the team to concentrate on building A for further study.

In an effort to further explore the effect of the use of a séance circle to increase energy within an environment the team seated themselves in a circle. Having set up the video cameras it was noted that insects were present and causing light anomalies on the film.

Ian commented on feeling uncomfortable and not really wanting to continue with this experiment.

Sounds of items being dropped elsewhere within the building were noted and a 'groan' was heard by Dave between himself and Kim. He also noted a presence between Kim and Paddy which was not present for very long.

Dave felt breaths on his hands and asked Kim and Ian to replicate this. The sensation was not repeated physically by the team.

Ian, by his own admission, failed to concentrate on anything further in this session due to increasing chest pains he was developing.

A distinct thump was heard on a table a few feet from the team and a further distinct louder one on an item close to the team.

A large shadow was seen by Dave to pass between Ian and Kim and at the same instant that this was mentioned Patrick concurred with the description and location of the anomaly.

During the break Dave saw what he would describe as a 'dark form' go past him outside.

Following the break the team returned to the building and sat around hoping to be ale to answer questions raised by the last session.

Despite spending some further time within building A only some non-descript bangs were heard.

The team took another break and decided to finish the night with a vigil in building B in the area that Ian and Dave had previously sat hours before.

Nothing of note happened in any shape or form and the investigation was concluded.

  Results
This report has been compiled following our fourth investigation at this site. During this time we have become accustomed to the noises that are present in the vicinity and feel we are more able to pass comment on those which are of note.

The site is deep in the Kent countryside and as such it has a minimal amount of background noise. There is always a small amount of traffic on the country lane outside but this is readily identifiable as are the sounds of distant gunshots due to night shooting and the occasional aircraft passing over at altitude. Nocturnal wildlife make itself known outside the buildings and yet within there have only been bats noticed audibly and visually. There are no signs of any other creatures present that are capably of noise. As can be seen in the text of the investigation there are insects freely flying about which can be made out on still and video camera footage. These create light anomalies when illuminated by flash or light within the IR spectrum and can be discounted as paranormal.

The buildings themselves, internally, display no characteristics of shrinkage within the woodwork as is familiar in old buildings as the temperature cools of an evening and night.

Other circumstances in the investigation will now be commented upon -

Shadowy figures were noted in different places by different persons. On each occasion the members of the team were accounted for and the site was secure and no other persons were present. Whilst the effects of the brain assessing uncharacteristic movement or shapes cannot be discounted the actual physical cause of these shadows is unknown. There were no light sources capable of creating this effect in these areas.

Ian and Dave noted sounds similar to movement on the stairs and upper floor of building B. These were in time with a person walking and of sufficient weight to caused by such. All members of the team were accounted for and therefore it is unknown what made them.

Ian commented on feeling cold and the temperature was found to have remained almost constant during this time. We feel that this cannot be rationally explained. This would also coincide with the draughts felt by Dave. Although near a window there was no wind of any note outside and the window was checked at that instant and there was no draught coming through any gaps. There were no gaps and the window was secure in its frame within the wall and all the panes of glass were secure. It did not open.

The taps will be dealt with wholly within a further section.

Moving to Kim and Paddy's notes in building A a temperature change can be noted here. Whilst a change of .7 deg is not significantly high it is somewhat compounded by the next rise up by a full 1.7 deg from the original within a short period of time. Bearing in mind that this investigation was taking place within the very late evening the natural temperature would be expected to be dropping to a point and if anything remain there. We are struggling to explain how these two combinations of temperature rise could naturally occur.

The above differences in temperature were found either side of a series of noises likened to machinery operating. Whilst items of type likely to create this noise were located within the building there is no physical way they could be operated unless mechanically or humanly. No other persons were near any of these machines and they are not connected to any mechanical device to enable their operation. It is not known whether they are capable of operation mechanically although those which are capable of being operated by hand were tested and were able to be moved with effort and made a similar noise to that heard. The reasons for their noise remains unexplained as does any coincidences with the temperature changes.

Feelings of apprehension can be explained by someone's presence in an unknown environment and faced with an unknown future. This is unlikely as we had spent a night here previously but may still have attributed or were they considering the possibility of occurrences in this investigation in light of what happened later?

With the whole team together the séance was attempted in order to see if this made any difference to anything noted as occurring.

Ian feels significantly uncomfortable to later state he considered stopping his participation. This is unlike any of the team and whilst it many have been explainable by psychological factors we can only state that it has not happened before whatever we have thought of a location.

Noises were noted and some were significantly closer to the team as to be known to have not been caused by any other persons or creatures within the building.

Dave comments on a dark form seen during this break. He offered an explanation that this may have been one of the frequently seen bats going past in his peripheral vision. This is felt to be highly likely although it defies any reasoning to be the cause of either of the other sightings of shadowy forms that night.

We return to the issue of noises within both buildings. This is something that would be further put to the test in future visits but for now we concern ourselves with the events of 1st September. In a building of any age there are likely to be noises that are difficult to explain although most are easily identified. In buildings that have little or no mechanical or electrical items then this is harder to explain where all objects are solid, have stability and the buildings are secure from draughts and windows and doors are secure and not prone to movement.

It is entirely plausible that singular noises may be a unique occurrence of natural cause even if the cause is not locatable. To this end it is sought that the noise should be able to repeated on command to whatever caused it in order that it is produced to demand on cue. It is then further sought that this noise be increased in volume when requested or transferred nearer to the investigating team on request. If these conditions are satisfied then the team ask for multiple noises to be made. This would indicate the possibility that they are being made by an intelligent source capable of complying with commands.

In the case of this investigation some were repeated on command, some were close to the team and on one occasion noted by Dave and Ian there were two where two were requested. It should be noted that these two were not sufficiently close together to be able to glean any conclusion. There were also a number of random noises which could not be verified.

During our stay a certain amount of other information was forthcoming to the team of a clairvoyant nature. As Ghost Connections conducts scientifically based investigations we do not publish such observations, however, this information is held on a separate database and may prove interesting when compared to other peoples experiences. Should you wish to discuss this information please email us.

Camcorder footage, still photographs and voice recorders were later examined and nothing further of note was found. Some of the audible noises were found to be recorded and as such we can be certain that they were not imagined by the team.

  Conclusions
This site was, at this time, offering up some of the best auditory possibilities we had yet found.

Sounds of machinery being operated when it was no possible.

Sounds of movement on floorboards where none was possible.

Sounds of banging occurring loudly and on request were only diminished by the lack of consistency of repetition.

  Thanks

Ghost Connections extend their thanks to the custodians of this site for their continued support to an ongoing series of investigations.

NB The following investigation and third at the site would reveal a staggering development in the phenomena recorded here. The report for this will follow shortly.
